There are many people who are deeply hurting because of the pain that accompanies separation and divorce. They are found in almost every church and community.
Divorce cuts a wide path of destruction. Husband, wife, children, parents, other family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and many others are drawn into the process and hurt through the divorce.
The church has a biblical mandate to serve and care for one another as the Lord has cared for us. There is little or no help for people experiencing divorce in our community, and we saw the needs of people hurting from divorce.
I started classes with Divorcecare on Monday, May 6th, 2024. My therapist recommended it.
I came in broken, deeply hurt, angry, scared, lonely, confused, sick and depressed, all because I have been cheated on, lied to for many years and finally abandoned by my husband of 30+ years even at the height of a severe panic attack.
Divorcecare has been a lifesaver for me. Thank God! The personalized prayers from our facilitator, Ms. Tjuana Smith, from our first meeting and at every meeting, have been soothing and reassuring of God’s love for me. The scriptures, personal stories shared in the videos and our class have helped me with the following:
1. Loosened my deep hurt and anger. Isaiah 61:1-3.
2. Helped me to rely completely on God and focus on God’s love for ME. Psalm 55:22. John 3:16.
3. Helped me to stop replaying the things he did that hurt me and instead start replaying God’s blessings on me. 2 Corinthians 10:5 “Take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
4. Helped me to shift my activities to other people who care and love me more than “this one person.”
5. Helped me to redirect my expectations. I have come up with the conviction that:
No Expectations = No Surprises. No Surprises = No Pains. And this conviction is working to reduce my frustrations with this “one person.”
6. Provided me with many strategies on how to trust God and live in happiness even in the face of the challenges of neglect by my spouse.
Through Divorcecare, I have walked from deep hurt, hate and unforgiveness to peace, wellness (in my mind, body and soul) and forgiveness. My perspective has shifted from my hurt to my God and His purpose for creating me. And I still marvel at how God can use His Holy Spirit to give us daily renewal even in this wicked world.
Thank you to all those at Divorcecare.
God bless this ministry.
Thank you, my sister, Tjuana! God bless you.
